I read this in Haaretz on why Israel was turning to fruitcakery:-
And left-wing voters have lost interest in the character of their country in recent years. After all, it’s not very liberal to tie yourself in knots in order to shape a society in accordance with your own values. Their secularism has been privatized. They have moved onto dealing with “nano” problems – questions of lifestyle like alternative weddings, circumcision (yes or no), Reform prayer at the Western Wall and girls getting called up to read publicly from the Torah.

This. As true of a ‘left’ celebrating difference and stroking its virtue by not just pointing out racism, sexism etc but celebrating itself as superior because it uses the right pronouns and sentences people to penury for uttering a word out of place in the public sphere. For enforcing anodyne comedy on TV! Continue reading “Nano Problems”
An oddity of brewing is despite central heating and us knowing to the minute when a bus will arrive brewers continue to pump out sulphuric heavy red ‘Winter’ ales. This would not be so bad except us ‘Spoons drinkers find aside from the sulphuric nature of the 5 or 6 standard ales which match the tastes of the founder Tim someit, who can nicely be called a Euro skeptic or a clown xenophobe dependent on perspective. Of course even away from the cheapness of Wetherspoons we run into these red nightmares. I personally wonder if brewers actually taste their own beer so sulphurous are some of these concoctions. It struck me before President Trump has done a thing the ‘Liberals’ in the States have lost their shit and thrown lots of stuff at someone inaugurated often for stuff Obama has done too and Mrs Clinton would have done – exclude Mexicans, deport 3 million, appoint his own judges, appoint clowns from Goldman Sachs etc. Reality is best case is his economics works better for ordinary people but personally sounds like a new Labour redux with seemingly positive policies reduced to ashes later on by the need to supply financiers with a rentier income see NHS. Yep Trump is considering Public Private Partnerships with Govt backed bonds when Govt can borrow at below 2%! Continue reading “Losing Your Shit And Perspective”
Start of the season Chelsea were 11/2 and probably not even value at that. Indeed at one point Conte was favourite for the sack. Now they are odds on.
In their favour they are not wasting time in Europe and are out of the EFL cup. They have the best front 3 in Hazard and Costa with Pedro. Conte has won titles before and clearly has got the players up for it. His tactics also seem to allow Chelsea to use bit part players previously in positions they do not hurt the team like Moses, Alonso and Luiz. Is there any reason to oppose?
The issue is as with the team whose title winning run bored even fans of Mourinho is it does not have goals written all over it. When Costa and Hazard play Pedro looks dangerous but basically without Hazard he’s lightweight and can be marked easier. The wide players Alonso and Moses are not great crossers or shots. Kante and Matic does not scream goals and Fabregas seems not to be as admired these days although as against Sunderland is a threat to score a goal. Equally whereas Chelsea’s back line has had set piece box threats like Terry, Gallas, Ivanovic and Cahill now the team is small and hard to see them as a threat.
Poverty of opposition may get the title for Chelsea but odds on too short.
Apparently it’s not just that BrExit voters dying off that may alter the set course of the referendum. In surveys 90% say they would not want to lose a 100 a month in a BrExit. Now of course no one knows what we will lose or gain and many of us skeptical of mainstream economics and Govt subsidy of globalisation will demure on costs. However mainstream economics suggests losses and indeed in dollar terms anyone on above 20 grand a year is already out of pocket circa £1500 so too late! Continue reading “BrExit Buyer’s Remorse”
